Shamexpress X Burscay

Shamexpress X Burscay

2 year old Bay Colt

Sire: Shamexpress Dam: Burscay

A strong bodied colt by Shamexpress, out of the Marscay mare, Burscay. He looks a real sprinting type who will be out to emulate his sire during his 3yo spring campaign.

His sire, Shamexpress, is by champion sire O’Reilly and was the winner of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at three, defeating multiple Group 1 winner Moment of Change. He was a Flemington straight track specialist. Shamexpress won his first career start over 1200m at Flemington as a 2yo and went on to run third in the Coolmore Stud Stakes in his 3yo Spring. He was a genuine Group 1 performer, outside of his Newmarket handicap win, he also ran second in the lightning Stakes and Darley Classic as well as fourth in the Newmarket Handicap in his 4yo season before being retired to stud.

His stud career has only just begun with his oldest progeny being two, however, being by champion sire O’Reilly he has every opportunity to succeed. O’reilly is the sire of thirteen Group 1 winners including Alamosa, Silent Achiever, Sacred Falls, Master O’Reilly, Shamrocker, Swick and most recently Grunt, winner of the 2018 Australian Guineas.

The dam, Burscay, only raced once but is already a proven producer. She has had six foals to race for five winners including Group 3 placed Hannah Mary. Her Sire, Marscay, was twice champion Australian sire and has four times been champion Australian broodmare sire. His broodmares include Marrego, the dam of Eremein, and AJC Oaks winner, Circles of Gold. Circles of Gold is the dam of champions Elvstroem and Haradasun along with Hveger, who has subsequently produced the world class Highland Reel.

The family of the colt is full of black type performers. Burscay is a half-sister to Listed winner Blazonry, and a three-quarter sister to listed winner Marsking as well as Lamora, dam of Group1 winner Mr Celebrity. Burscay’s dam, Burlington House is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Prince Salieri. His wins included the Underwood Stakes and he was also placed in some of Australia’s biggest races including the Australia Cup, Caulfield Guineas, Toorak Handicap, Doncaster handicap and Mackinnon Stakes. It is clear that based both on type and pedigree, our colt has every opportunity to achieve results at the highest level on the track.

Our colt was originally purchased as a weanling by highly regarded bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo. Phill has previously sourced 20 individual Group 1 winners including Aloisia, Descarado, Gingernuts, Kibbutz and Azkadellia. We have been able to secure the colt privately and are really excited by his future prospects.
